Bachelor’s Day is an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on February 29th.
It is based on a deal that Saint Bridget made with Saint Patrick. In the 5th century, Saint Bridget complained to Saint Patrick that women had to wait too long to be married because men were not in any hurry to propose. She asked for women to be given the opportunity to propose, and while Saint Patrick initially offered for women to be allowed to propose on one day every seven years, he relented to one day every four years.
